Iqaluit man charged with second-degree murder in Oct. 6 death
Nunavut RCMP say Qaqasie Aningmiuq, 21, has been charged with second-degree murder in connection with the death of Robert Kipanik, 38, following an Oct. 6 altercation in Iqaluit’s 300 block. Police say Aningmiuq was remanded in custody and is scheduled to appear in court in Iqaluit on Nov. 17. The charge has not been tested in court. Source↗

NIRB is accepting comments on proposed three-site wilderness-lodge network
The Nunavut Impact Review Board is screening GeoNest’s proposed network of three seasonal wilderness lodges near Arctic Bay, Cunningham Bay on Prince of Wales Island, and Slidre Fiord near Eureka. Auditor general finds persistent safety gaps in Nunavut foster care
Canada’s auditor general found Nunavut’s Family Services Department often could not show it had completed basic safeguards for children in foster care. In the audit sample, 48 per cent of new foster-home files lacked a complete home study before placement or had one completed after placement, while 62 per cent of applicable annual home reviews were missing or incomplete. Baker Lake boil-water advisory lifted after five weeks
Baker Lake residents no longer need to boil tap water before drinking, cooking or brushing their teeth. Nunavut’s Health Department lifted the advisory on Nov. 3, five weeks after it was issued because of high turbidity — cloudy water. Source↗
Iqaluit prices were 3% higher in September than a year earlier
Statistics Canada’s latest Consumer Price Index shows Iqaluit’s overall price level was 3.0 per cent higher in September 2026 than in September 2025. The index fell 0.7 per cent from August to September, while the annual rate eased from 3.4 per cent in August. Source↗
